Graphic Designer

The marriage of words and images is your storytelling superpower. That juxtaposition has the power to build global brands and you know how to do it. You think in marketing and cultural relevance and know when to pull the brand lever vs. the conversion lever but also believe they inform each other. While you make things look, feel, and read beautiful, you’re low-fi and scrappy and can move projects from dream to reality with technical skill and competence. A touchpoint is a touchpoint is a touchpoint; from pixels to party favors, you can weave brand magic and consistency.

Ideally, you’re a swiss army knife: comfortable working across (and unifying) many different platforms including photography, motion, digital/web, branding, landing pages, drip campaigns, emails, paid assets, experiential, packaging, art direction, etc. Maybe you dabble in motion design, set design, photography, illustration, or experiment with AR…or build plant walls…or maybe you’re just a badass specialist.

In addition to your obsession with typography and tight visual systems, you seek to improve and push the company beyond current trends—we are not looking to create yet another “millennial” startup. You could wake up every day with the mission to make science accessible and cool. Pushing boundaries and buttons as a method to counter-program against the noise (especially when it comes to science) is intriguing. You empathically know how to meet people where they are and how to bring them along for the journey. Metrics do not make your skin crawl, they inspire. In your experience, you’ve told a lot of stories, created a lot of stuff, and you’re ready for something that satisfies. You’ll be pushed outside of your comfort zone and required to work within mediums outside your typical gig.

Regardless of your background, you’ll work with the Design Director and Creative EP to push the brand forward as we launch new products, channels, markets, and partnerships.

Who you are:

  • 6+ years of professional design experience preferably with print and brand development
  • Expert: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Figma
  • Basic knowledge of video editing / GIF creation
  • Bonus: After Effects, photography, and retouching
  • Positive, and open to feedback
  • Strong communicator
  • Curious experimenter

Graphic Designer, Social + Brand Experience

At the core of the Seed Design Team is the mission to see science differently—be it your body, microbes, the planet, even space. Everything visual that goes out into the world goes through this lens, and each output of the brand—web, packaging, merch, social, ads, etc.—feels unified but not exactly the same or repurposed.

The team you will call home within Seed is responsible for the most constantly changing channels and mediums: Social and Brand Experience. Both fall under the umbrella of Storytelling—an educational arm that meets people where they are and uses the mediums of the ‘now’ to Trojan horse science into the zeitgeist.

This is where you come in. Your superpower is evolution and adaptation. In the constantly changing world of social media, fashion, branding, art, music, and creativity, you have your eyes on the here and now, your ears to the ground, and a mind that can devise ways to reimagine how we see science.

The marriage of words and images is Seed’s superpower as scientific communicators and storytellers, and you are a key stakeholder in the visual representation of our most experimental channels of communication across social media, brand experience (merch, new mediums like AR/VR), and brand experiments (campaigns).

Your curiosity as a human allows you to have one foot in the world of social, design, fashion, and culture, and the other in the world of science, planetary health, and mind-gasmy new things. In this way you are a swiss army knife: working collaboratively with our social and brand experience teams to bring our brand (and science) into the zeitgeist, fearlessly testing ways we can play with new visuals, typography, and mediums all while knowing how to flex the walls of our brand design to push their boundaries without ever breaking them.

In your mind: Nothing is impossible.

Who You Are

  • 2+ years of professional design experience working in social media
  • Passionate about translating science into beautiful, easy to understand assets
  • Able to storyboard ideas that respond to a creative brief and execute into beautiful social assets
  • Expert: Figma + Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, AfterEffects)
  • Knowledge of current trends in video/motion editing
  • Obsessed with consuming social media content and observing trends in each platform
  • Bonus: photography, and retouching
  • Positive, and open to feedback
  • Strong communicator
  • Curious experimenter, likes to push boundaries regarding channel expectations

What You’ll Do

  • Ideate, create, and iterate new and tried-and-true concepts across the Storytelling channels, working closely with our Social team and Director of Storytelling
  • Create campaign identities for our experiments (stylized moodboards, typography options, color palettes, reference imagery, etc.) with Director of Storytelling and Design Director
  • Immerse yourself in the digital (social, email, ads, etc.) and physical (clothing, art, event, etc.) landscapes and understand the mediums of now
  • Review and collaborate with Brand Marketing team on quarterly and monthly goals, storytelling strategies, and directions for company growth, constantly thinking about how Seed as a brand can show up differently
  • Recognise how to drive engagement and look at ways to continually push the brand forward within our social channels
  • Intrigue yourself with data and performance and challenge yourself to find the sweet spot of creativity that gives something that scroll-stopping power
  • Come to the table with experimental ideas that help communicate science education in a way that is culturally relevant and native to the social channel it’s being posted on
  • Collaborate with the social team to brainstorm engaging content that supports specific outcomes (i.e. engagement, shares, web sessions, etc.). These assets will be used for Instagram stories, grid, reels, IGTV, Twitter, LinkedIn, and more (hello, Tiktok).
  • Disrupt the norm to counter-program against the noise (especially when it comes to science) to make health and science accessible and cool
  • Rise up to the challenge of exploring mediums outside your comfort zone and push yourself to continue to be a constant student in your role and our world
  • Most importantly, bring the whole You to Seed—your perspectives, interests, hobbies, and knowledge outside of the walls of work inform the creative process and give fresh perspectives on the world around us all.

  • Interpret data-driven feedback provided by the growth team and external partners to create a variety of options for A/B testing (and maybe C / D / and E )

Data Science

Director of Data Science

The Director, Data Science, will be the first data science hire at Seed, tasked with creating a world-class Data Science organization at a startup undergoing hyper-growth. In this role, you will first internalize and become an expert on our current business intelligence data infrastructure (Snowflake, Fivetran, and Tableau; open to changes) while looking ahead to cutting edge application of engagement optimization, recommendation systems, marketing mix, and retention science. You obsess over data, insights, new trends, technologies and the kind of gut instincts that come from experience and deep knowledge of our brand. Simultaneously, you will cultivate an environment that fosters an experiment-first, growth-minded philosophy. Director of Growth + Strategic Partnerships

Us

We are a VC-funded microbial sciences company developing applications of microbes for both human and environmental health. We are headquartered in Venice, California with a presence in New York, Boston, Taipei, France, and Australia. Our team, collaborators, and advisory board include scientists leading their field with breakthrough discoveries in various areas of microbiome research, as well as marketers, brand builders, operators and storytellers who have worked across disciplines from razors to rockets.

We founded our consumer life science brand, Seed, to disrupt the $60B+ global probiotics market by bringing much-needed science, precision, efficacy and education to the crowded and confusing global landscape of ‘probiotics.’ With the Company’s Scientific Board of leading microbiome researchers, clinicians and academic partners, we develop therapies and probiotic innovations across gastroenterology, dermatology, oral hygiene, pediatrics, women’s health, and nutrition. Our brand is often recognized not just for our science, but for our commitment to science communication and design. We’ve won awards such as Fast Company’s “World Changing Ideas” in 2019, 2020, and 2021; Time’sBest Inventions 2018,’ and a Webby for ‘Best Use of Stories on Instagram.’

You

You see the world in partnerships—symbiotic opportunities that enable growth, empower impact, and create value—ranging from the traditional (dedicated emails, duh) to the wild. There’s an innumerable ecosystem of businesses, platforms, organizations, foundations, networks, groups, forums, and connected individuals that are excited about the work we do in human and planetary health—we just need to structure the right collaborations.

You speak IRL and URL, with a special talent for orchestrating a funnel of touchpoints that will convert a partner’s audience into loyal, high-LTV members.

Your goal: quadruple the scale of our partnerships activity while upholding our unwavering criteria: (1) must champion science, not dilute it; and (2) must prove an efficient ROI.

How?

You’ll build relationships with...everyone. You attend soft openings of new restaurants and art shows, talk to people in line at the grocery store, scroll through the comments section on Instagram and are a go-to for all things from pop culture to tech to health—always with an eye peeled for interesting humans and potential collaborators. Your subject lines and intro statements are unignorable, and you follow up, follow up, follow up. Because of the volume of traffic entering and exiting your inbox(es), you track your CRM with the obsessive organization of a MUJI store.

You’ll masterfully negotiate partnership terms that exceed performance goals. There are many types of partnerships—content publishers, paid influencers, podcasts, loyalty platforms, affiliate networks, coupon sites, etc.—each with their own set of audiences, placements, incentives, and role in the conversion funnel. Bring along your own curated ecosystem of successful partners, but seek out the unconventional experiments too, using your CPA calculator to ensure there’s a path for overdelivery.

You’ll represent our science with precision. To be successful, you soak up information about the microbiome and probiotics like a sponge, and deeply understand what will ‘wow’ our target communities. Your proficiency will spark epiphanies on conference calls and make saying “yes” easy.

You’ll work side-by-side with our Growth team, mapping out KPIs, strategy, and target cohorts. You’ll manage a curated group of agencies and consultants with domain expertise in specific verticals, who are hungry, but do not know the brand or science as much as you do. You’ll have the support of very-connected co-founders and a very talented in-house creative department to bring your wildest visions to life.

Above all, you know the success of a partnership is not in the closing of a deal, but in its execution. You can PM a partnership from end-to-end and evoke the “wow, I wish all partners worked like this” feedback from collaborators.

Who you are:

  • 5+ years of related business development and partnership experience
  • Previous experience negotiating partnerships, advertising, and/or affiliate contracts
  • Strong experience with Google Marketing Suite: Drive, Spreadsheets, Docs, Analytics
  • Established global network and international experience, with a focus in Los Angeles, New York City, London, and APAC
  • Extraordinary written and verbal communication skills
  • Flawless attention to detail in planning and execution of all assigned tasks

Head of Practitioner Community + Operations

Head of Practitioner Community + Operations

We don’t have to tell you that the healthcare landscape is changing. You’re in it. Telemedicine, direct-to-consumer pharmacies, high-tech clinics, wearables, public health AI, health coach certifications, etc. are creating a new healthcare ecosystem, and you are tracking these evolutions.

At Seed, you’ll launch and grow a new business unit that will affect how licensed practitioners and their clients/patients access and understand the microbiome, probiotics, and new frameworks for other ecosystems of the body and diet. Most companies think of this influential community as a B2B sales channel, but we believe there’s a more empowering approach that solves rampant misinformation in probiotics and elevates this prosumer experience in a noisy (and often archaic) space. You’ll own the P+L, tech and product brief, trade marketing, community engagement, and the two-sided experience for both practitioners and those they serve.

You’ll connect dots across the licensed practitioner landscape (e.g. functional medicine doctors, acupuncturists, gastroenterologists, dietitians, clinics, telepharmacists). You’ll understand their needs, how they are currently being and not being served by companies, the best ways to reach them, how we can add value to their work, how we can help them serve and educate their clients and patients, how we should gather them in real life and digitally, and how we can be an ongoing resource for them.

You’ll operationalize all aspects of this unit and forge the strategic partnerships required to scale and diversify this community as we launch new products in verticals and domains with unique practitioner expertise. You’ll own the end to end user journey and two-sided product for practitioners and their patients. You’ll brief mindgasming creative assets, double quadruple the size of our existing CRM, prove ROI on multiple marketing channels, evaluate the UX of new payment platforms, set price points and MOQs for SKUs, and build an exceptional team as we grow.

Most importantly, you’ll raise the bar for what practitioners should expect from companies and products to earn their trust and recommendation.

Who you are:

  • 7+ years of related business development, marketing, or operations experience
  • Previous experience in consumer health, healthcare, and/or the prosumer space
  • Previous experience brand-side, leading community
  • Experience leading large, complex, and first-of-their-kind projects end to end, from strategy to launch to scale
  • Extraordinary written and verbal communication skills
  • Flawless attention to detail in planning and execution of all assigned tasks
  • Literacy in health and science

Paid Social Media Buyer + Coordinator

If you are a doer and thinker who nurtures both the artist and scientist within— this is for you. As the Paid Social Media Marketing Coordinator, you will support the Marketing Team in a period of hyper growth. You will be responsible for executing growth initiatives for Seed on various digital marketing platforms and will partner with our teammates in influencer marketing, search marketing, design, R&D, and more. The ideal candidate will approach this role with an experimentative, growth-focused mindset.

More about you:

You live scientifically (understanding that curiosity is its own reward), give a sh*t (about human and planetary health), are comfortable shifting perspective (finding ways to avoid confirmation bias and challenging the status quo), see health as a verb, and apply First Principles and Truth Seeking.

You have a fascination with science and the microbes on us and in us. Simultaneously, you have a desire to spread the word about Seed and the science of probiotics informatively and successfully. Metrics inspire you, data provokes creativity and you love to problem-solve, as well as get creative and test new ideas.

Who You Are:

  • Knowledgeable about the world of wellness, health and healthcare, regulation and compliance, and eager to immerse yourself in it and learn more
  • Proficiency with Facebook and Instagram advertising and a curiosity to continue learning about multi-channel digital marketing
  • Committed to education, deepening self-learning and understanding of Seed, our microbiome, our brand, values, products, and the science behind what we do
  • Extraordinary written and verbal communication skills
  • Data-driven and creative (left and right brained)
  • Innovative thinker and collaborative team player
  • 1-2 years work experience or strong internship experience

What You’ll Do:

  • Strategize, execute, and manage Facebook ad campaigns from conception to creative to execution to analysis.
  • Continuously measure and optimize campaign performance
  • Develop marketing strategies to support Seed’s objectives
  • Communicate performance and create a clear roadmap for the future
  • Assist the marketing team with ad hoc requests as necessary

Senior Director, E-Commerce Operations

You will be responsible for building a galaxy-class e-commerce subscription experience for our community of members that reflects the rigor of our science, intentionality of our brand, and the human-centric ethos of our company, especially as it relates to the accountability of health.

You will be the architect and owner of an impactful, friction-less, tech-forward, every-single-little-touch point-has-been-thought-of member journey. Even the foundational, basic building blocks will be implemented with proficiency, scalability and magic in mind. E-commerce is not a means by which someone receives our product or cancels an order––the digital experience of Seed IS 50% OF THE PRODUCT EXPERIENCE AND 100% OF THE MEMBER EXPERIENCE. You are obsessed with the interplay and reciprocity between the online and offline—how even simple tools can elicit the “holy sh*t you guys think of everything, I want to buy anything from you” response.

This means building a high productivity, member-first service culture. You obsess over data, insights, new trends, technologies and the kind of gut instincts that come from experience and deep knowledge of our brand. You are discerning about your experiments and how to roll out implementations––and your passion for e-commerce in all-team emails comes through when you communicate a shipping upgrade with the fervor of a scientific breakthrough.

Your tech proficiency rivals your product/design thinking and operational prowess.
You see the matrix, and you’re always looking for ways to optimize it.

You embrace and operationalize the urgency and critical importance of time in this function––a person without refills today that are critical to their health is something you would lose sleep over. A Christmas present isn’t a Christmas present on December 26th. You have made our 3PL your best friend, such that we are perceived as omnipotent puppeteers of large global shipping carriers :)

You can see the business model, optimization, 3PL management, international rollout, care team metrics at 10^12 and get in the weeds to go that extra mile when the warehouse makes a mistake at 10^1. And you create data visualization, reporting and communications that reflect sophistication and obsession with the optimization of the member experience.

You will drive the definition and adoption of key performance metrics (both quantitative and qualitative) coordinated across logistics, operations, member care, marketing, growth, product and yes, even R+D and our SciCare team. You will build an agile platform so that testing, experimentation and quick fixes don’t break the system, but supercharge it. In an Amazon-world with Amazon expectations, you think about points of differentiation, seamlessness, what can be human-led and where technology can optimize.

The subscription nature of what we do means we work to earn that transaction each month—and with new products means new complexity, and the need for better tools and an operational framework that utilizes a first principles approach to some key areas that drive churn in other companies. Some questions you might ask: What is the role of SMS? AI? The Member Dashboard? What happens when there are multiple subscriptions per household? What happens when people use different products on a different cadence and only need one refilled, but another to not deliver for 2 weeks? Multi-address and multi-payment single subscription options? Carbon offset checkout integrations? Bundling implementation? International optimization? Multi-node warehouses? Implementation of loyalty, retention programs? International cross border and overseas warehouse selection? Currency conversion, tax and duties, international distribution nodes, regulatory, compliance—you’ve been there, done this.

As an e-commerce swiss army knife, you are a one-person show capable of growing a team from the ground up. You speak dev, product, growth, retention, finance, brand, CX, UX, data science, (maybe even health and life science) and just enough behavioral science to connect dots in ways others don’t think of. Above all, you have the ability to put yourself in a human’s shoes (both the Member and the team and partners responsible for operating the experience) and architect with a high sense of empathy. You are excited about designing uniquely-Seed solutions and building a highly intentional signature experience.

Under your ownership, our e-commerce experience will feel like this.

Who you are, what you’ve done and what you’ll do:

  • 5-7+ years of experience scaling world-class international e-commerce subscription platforms working across engineering teams, product, care, brand and all other internal touchpoints.
  • Built an e-commerce business that has achieved significant scale over a short period of time. A big plus if the company has achieved annual revenue in excess of $250MM - 500MM.
  • Significant track record of building a highly engaged, performing and collaborative team, developing an org structure that is in line with the department’s strategic goals and scale plans; passionate about bringing the best talent on-board and driving an exceptional team culture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting and impeccable internal updating skills.
Member obsessed: you possess a deeply empathetic mindset that you can translate into real solutions for members.
  • You earn trust with the team and stakeholders: you listen, you are inclusive, you treat others with respect, and you are willing to be vocally self-critical.
  • Passionate self-starter, decisive and able to move with speed to implement and correct when needed.

Ambassadors + Partnerships Manager

We’re building a partnership and affiliate program that goes way beyond “influence”—we’re revolutionizing the way people understand our bacterial world, both inside and out. It’s more than Instagram and YouTube, it’s a movement based in science and accountability.

A community builder at heart, your tenacious spirit is paired perfectly with your patience and empathy. You’re equal parts data analytics and creative. “Disorganized” isn’t a word in your vocabulary—you are detail obsessed, the epitome of coordinated, and love the feeling of crossing something off your to-do list or a 5,000 line Google Sheet. And when you’re not living in, and maniacally managing, the nitty gritty, you’re exploring—and actioning that exploring with DMs and cold emails to the humans you are most interested in. You’re curious, actively seeking out opportunities to learn, and thrive in processing new information. You are the dot connector of all dot connectors. You understand 1+1=3. And you see the matrix. One of your passions is finding unique voices to cultivate a diverse ecosystem of perspectives.

As an Ambassadors + Partnerships Manager, you will be in charge of maintaining relationships with our affiliate partners, communicating the awesome work at Seed to ensure they know about initiatives beyond our work with them and thereby become the steward of our Seed University program. You will assist with crucial campaign details—running channel analytics, drafting contracts, tracking creative assets, and coordinating live dates. You will source new talent, voices, humans, superorganisms every week to continuously grow and support our expanding partner ecosystem. You will identify unique niches and interest areas that align with ours to uncover new cohorts and communities.

Who you are:

  • 3+ years of experience in influencer marketing, partnership, or ambassador roles
  • Deep understanding of FTC guidelines and compliance
  • Familiarity with influencer marketing platforms, namely Grin
  • Comprehensive experience and knowledge of Instagram and YouTube algorithms
  • Data-driven and creative (left / right brained)
  • Extraordinary written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive and open to always improving
  • Committed to education and deepening self-learning and understanding of Seed, our brand, values, products, and the science behind what we do
  • Ability to keep composure under pressure

Director, PR + Communications

For us, ‘brand’ goes far beyond visual guidelines and a voice deck. It permeates through everything: every word, event, product launch, piece of translational content, campaign, social post, press release, email, Slack—and email signature. It evokes our worldview and integrity, offers a belief system and values that go far beyond the products we sell. It’s a mechanism we use to shift perspective—sometimes even our own. And in the confusing, politicized and hyperbolic world of health and “wellness,” it amplifies science, advocates for education, and champions humanism, even when shortcuts to growth are tempting. When expressed well, it’s like bacteria: invisible, impactful, and omnipresent.

We’re humans with big ideas, big convictions, and a big story to tell through the lens of the invisible world of microbes. We wake up each day to nudge the world  forward. You (and your heart, brain, strategy, execution and words) will help us distribute and amplify our message at the right time, in the right way.

You will join us as a Director of PR + Communications to own all PR and amplification. Today, this means managing two US agencies (consumer / science + tech + business), as well as territory-specific international agencies in the UK (with potentially more in Hong Kong, Australia and APAC). You will also collaborate and coordinate across agencies with partners, universities and various KOL representatives.

Most foundationally, you are an extraordinary writer. You know the medium is the message. And you know how to message. Talking points, briefs, emails that hook, copy that can be copied and pasted to construct the narrative you’re trying to tell (read: write the article in the brief), well-timed connecting of dots with relevant links sending beacons out into the world that can change the trajectory and signal strategically. Your brief on ‘pants announcing pockets’ would get into FastCompany and communicate a kind of sophistication in creating relevance, hooks, entertainment, meaning and why this innovation is the future.

You are an incredible mimic and can quickly get yourself up to speed on any topic and write a brief or press release as you concurrently learn and gain domain expertise from a variety of angles. You are extraordinary at external partner management and internal communications and coordination—the success of an agency or partner is the direct result of your precision, proficiency and oversight—all done with kindness and a natural skill set to become the favorite client.

You are so good at this, the founder of an agency will directly email us and write, “I just wanted to let you know that [insert your name] is extraordinary and our team loves working with them.” This skill is what makes you so compelling to partners, KOLs and helps ensure agencies do their best work. You are comfortable across channels for a fast-moving startup, you live in Google Sheets, Asana and rolling up your sleeves to get shi*t done with an exceptional pairing of both quantity and quality. You will have a lot of surface area internally and externally, and will thrive in interacting with humans at all levels of our ecosystem—leadership, partners, affiliates, influencers, team members. Your work style immediately engenders trust because nothing slips through and your organization and communication style is impeccable, even when you don’t always have an answer.

Your personal network and ecosystem are unrivaled. You are not reliant on agency relationships entirely and will have a plan for when to build an in-house team and when to continue with external partners.

You have worked in health, science and consumer. You are strangely versed in scientific publication amplification, corporate development signaling, founder brand building, consumer product placement and the Venn diagram of science / biotech, consumer / DTC, tech, business and relevant trades.

You will be responsible for working with our PR agencies to strategically plan, draft, synthesize, and execute communications initiatives, campaigns and launches—all while keeping your finger on the pulse of developments in our ever-changing culture, global world and 24-hour news cycles. You will be responsible for the drafting of press briefs, bios, releases and coordinate efforts across the team to ensure our partners have everything they need to be effective. Across all your ownership areas, you respond to inbound requests, and triage thoughtfully.

You will work closely with the greater Marketing team to stay up to date with product and brand evolution, giving input on brand initiatives, content strategy, our learning/educational content, and amplifying our launches through partnership and affiliate channels. And you will also work closely and coordinate with R+D for publication tracking, relevant initiatives and areas of opportunity for amplification. You will project manage cross-functional workflows in order to meet tight deadlines and ensure consistent messaging across teams. You will support online and offline events to facilitate conversations and connections. You’ll stay up to date and engaged with our scientific community, broader cultural moments (read: you would have had a weekly series on Clubhouse for us the first month it launched :), and partnership activity—all while acting as an essential coordinator of your areas of ownership.

This role reports to our VP of Brand Experience, but works as a right-hand to our Co-CEOs and is the human that can be cc:’d on anything and we know it will be caught, coordinated and followed up on.

Who you are:

  • 5+ years of experience
  • Literacy in health and life science
  • Managerial experience to help build and coach an evolving team
  • Self-motivated and insatiably curious.
  • Passion for science, health, marketing, brand culture, community-building and ideally, microbes.
  • Natural relationship-builder who thrives in a dynamic environment wearing many hats and collaborating with a tight-knit team.
  • Extraordinary Communication skills (visual and written) with a superior attention to detail. Your decks are incredible and your emails are forwardable.
  • Deep experience with PR across consumer, tech, health (ideally) and business.
  • Stellar editorial skills and experience in writing for press, gathering inputs and edits and overseeing the process of finalizing external-facing documents.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to respond quickly, yet thoughtfully, to urgent matters
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations or related communications field. MBA in marketing and/or marketing experience a plus.
  • Excellent project manager and ability to manage editorial schedules and deadlines with ongoing campaigns and initiatives
  • Agile—ability to adapt strategies (and really, anything) at a moment’s notice
  • Experience and a passion for serving a community of influencers, demonstrated ability to manage and grow a large social community with strong attention to detail-- i.e. follow up, tone, synthesis of content and communications
  • Possess a team player mindset with significant organization skills, comfortable with ownership and accountability, constantly proactive and solution-oriented
  • Sponge-like consumer of science, news, culture, and the world within us and around us
  • ‘Cosmos is the limit’, ‘out of the box’ mentality
  • Ruthless prioritization with high emotional intelligence
  • Connector of unlikely dots and natural storyteller
  • Comfortable (maybe even happiest) in the unknown
  • Unconventional thinker excited to push the boundaries of what ‘PR +  Influencer Marketing” means
  • Strong understanding of what it takes to cultivate a loyal community

What You’ll Do:

  • Responsible for amplifying overall brand awareness through the development and execution of a fully integrated communications strategy that garners positive consumer and industry media coverage.
  • Craft compelling stories for both our scientific and consumer communities
  • Develop KPIs to effectively measure the impact of PR programs
  • Awards, podcasts, speaking engagements
  • Manage our external PR agencies and ensure that they are both supporting campaigns and proactively bringing in new opportunities
  • Develop and execute impactful earned media strategies that elevate our brand and position our products and scientific advancements as leaders in the marketplace
  • Work directly with leadership to ensure flawless execution of all executive corporate communications; identify and secure thought leadership opportunities across the company, including bylines, speaking opportunities, and various other branding opportunities
  • Grow and cultivate a global communications ecosystem (internal team plus external partners and agencies)

Freelance Copywriter

We’re big on words. Words empower and steward the integrous translation of science that forms the foundation of our brand.

Writer and storyteller at heart, you create magic in the permutation of 26 letters, a handful of punctuation, and occasional, cleverly-placed emojis. You think in long form and short form and rap verses and poetry and everything in between and understand it’s about speaking to people in the way they want to be spoken to. You can get to the heart of a message in the fewest number of characters and thrive in the crafting of phrases that catalyze action. Words are powerful; you know exactly when and how to be subversive and provocative versus nurturing and expansive. You thrive in memes, haikus, hashtags, puns, metaphors and analogies—word play is your superpower. When we say TED meets Vox meets The Hustle meets Carl Sagan meets VICE, you know what we mean.

And you are curious. Pushing boundaries and buttons is your thing and you demand a new way to counterprogram against the noise (especially when it comes to science, health, and wellness). You could wake up every day with the mission to make science accessible and cool (while also fully understanding the importance of integrity and the nuance of precision). You are inspired to crack empowerment through education and turn click-bait into meaning. You have told a lot of stories, written a lot of taglines, tweets, captions, and subject lines, and you’re ready for something that satisfies and expands and peeks your intellect, your soul, and of course, your microbiome.

Who you are:

  • 3+ years experience (especially if in an educational / science / health / CPG / wellness or related space)
  • Extraordinary crafter of beautiful language
  • A steward for brand identity and voice
  • Multi-channel, multi-tasking, multi-disciplinary—experience across campaign, social, packaging, web, and email, a plus
  • Synthesis of disparate ideas to create analogies, metaphors, and other narrative devices to communicate science and inspire a community
  • You noticed the misused homophone in this job description and it bothered you deeply

As part of our growing experiments to trojan horse science, in 2021 we acquired the @earth platforms on social media (Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, TikTok), growing our community to nearly 5M. The @earth community is full of environmental advocates, content creators, and global bio-citizens.

We’re Superorganisms with big ideas, big convictions, and a rigorous sense of responsibility.

We believe that health is not just human and that our (human) health is inextricably linked to the health of our planet. The knowledge that everything is connected, from the smallest microbe to the whales in the ocean, allows us to tell stories to different communities in the effort to shift perspectives about how we see ourselves, and the world around us.

You are a passionate storyteller, strategic thinker, community grower, instinctual internet and culture consumer, a sharp creative eye, with a love for the planet. Special Projects + Magic Lead

What if science had a streetwear label?

If you are fascinated by that prospect, keep reading.

At Seed, the medium is the message. And we always try to go beyond the medium to think about the experience. How it feels, smells, tastes, opens. If it is sustainable and unique. Does it help make science more relevant? Can you learn something? And above all, if it feels human.

You understand fashion and object design—the current landscape of art and culture, know about the newest designers and innovators, track the most sustainable methods of making materials—and if asked to track down a vintage science tee, you’d know exactly where to go. You’re tapped into Hypebeast, High Snob, and BoF, look into the sustainability of brands like Pangaia, Mylo, Byborre, Parley, and Everybody World, and understand the importance of personalization.

Working directly with Seed’s Director of Storytelling and Brand Experience, you will help ideate, mood board, plan, research, develop, source and produce our experiential drop system: Magic. This system includes everything from sourcing sustainable materials (clothing, packaging, etc.), researching artifacts (vintage items, fossils, books), and, most importantly, maintaining knowledge of the ever changing world outside of science that we can tap into. There is no collaboration too strange to pitch—as long as it ensures the opportunity to learn and make science accessible to the most unexpected of communities.

Your superpower is being plugged in and making sh*t happen. Fashion, art, music, sustainability, you have your eyes on the right now and the future. You’re tapped into major calendar moments (Fashion Week, The Met Gala, the Oscars, new album drops, festivals, etc.) and can spot opportunities where we can inject science and perspective shifting into the zeitgeist.

Your curiosity as a human allows you to have one foot in the world of fashion and art, and the other in the world of sustainability and science. In this way, you are capable of seeing dot-connections where others may not, moving quickly and efficiently to scope ideas and bring them to life.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead creatively and scientifically: Merge art and science with insights from the outer world that informs our inner ideation and production for merch drops.
  • Embody the Seed culture and ethos in the selection of products, drops, and partners that are true to our brand and outward expressions
  • Monitor trends: Keep your finger on the pulse of cultural trends and moments where we can Trojan horse science and wink at the zeitgeist. Most importantly, this will include the identification of Superorganisms to feature, people out in the world shifting perspectives, artist curation for content collaboration, etc. that can also be surfaced for the team and bring a diversity in perspective and sourcing new perspectives, creators, etc.
  • Create reports for the team to inspire across marketing—what is happening outside the walls of science (trends), tracking drops with larger goals (social media analytics), etc.
  • Own the (sometimes maniacal) organization, tracking and reporting of production across every drop and work closely with the Director of Storytelling + EP on learnings, efficiencies for next drop, and performances; always being solutions oriented.
  • Curate the Magic ecosystem:
    • Research, define, and grow a list of vendors that fit within the Seed ethos of sustainability—tracking pricing, timing, sustainability, etc.
    • Collect and organize a list of collaborators for future Magic drops (clothing designers, material developers, artists, scientists, niche brands, etc.).
    • Track all Magic ideation from team and see where to connect the dots across the above points
  • Prepare and plan seasonal drops: Organize quarterly plans in collaboration with the Director of Storytelling on drop plans, market trends, business objectives, and timeline of production.
  • Strategize and push boundaries: Discover and pitch new ways for Magic to appear to our community across all touch points (social, customer, internal)
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Work with creative and production teams from ideation to completion of each drop.
  • Assist and collaborate with the Director of Storytelling:
    • Creating Brand Marketing campaign briefs, helping track deliverables and ensuring successful launches
    • Using market trends to inform brand expressions of our experiments and campaigns
    • Strategizing ways to push boundaries for how education comes to life across all touchpoints
    • Support creative team to achieve timely deliveries and meet internal targets and deadlines
    • Inspiring learning and curiosity within our internal ecosystem, discovering surprising and delightful moments to excite and intrigue the Seed ecosystem
  • All other moments of osmosis and symbiosis that emerge as we grow :)

Science Care Specialist

We’re a human brand serving humans who ask us about health, science, probiotics, acclimation and anything one can Google. Some are inquisitive and skeptical, others praise us for our knowledge and helpfulness. As a company obsessed with scientific integrity, the cultivation of community, and a deep commitment to education, you are a vital part of this. You are an integral steward of Seed, the communication of science and our values, and a keystone of our brand experience. You are the catalyst for word-of-mouth and the first impression for incoming customers and curious question-askers who are excited about what we do and how we do it. People you interact with will walk away saying ‘whoa, I have never had an experience that felt so unique, intelligent and thoughtful’.

This goes beyond a world-class customer experience—this is about human relationships grounded in trust, scientific accessibility, and believing in knowledge as agency. Every day, we deal with human health and all of the nuance, emotion, and crucial empathy that’s required of it. This is about how you guide someone’s health journey and experience through the lens of science, and how you translate and communicate in a way that’s simultaneously rigorous, accessible, and kind.

You are the face of our SciCare team and the first point of contact for our customers when they seek guidance for their detailed science and health questions. You are excited to care for their end-to-end experience, even when that means scouring through pubmed to address the most nuanced of questions. You constantly ask how else you can serve with Seed’s ethos of citizen science, curiosity, and learning injected into every email you write or scientific translation you create. You have eight ideas about how to offer unexpected moments of inspiration when a customer first mentions they’re interested in the microbiome or inquires about probiotics for their dog; as well as how we can do that consistently and proactively.

You are deeply curious about biology, bacteria, nutrition, the microbiome and their role in human and ecological health. When someone hears about a new diet or detox, you’re the one they text for the facts. PubMed is in your Instagram feed, Nature Medicine is in your bookmarks bar, and you’re excited to finally bridge the n of 100 (what science knows) with the n of 1 (how a human feels). This means everything from resolving daily customer service inquiries to communicating science to the public—in response to questions we receive, but also finding ways to proactively offer information and education in new and unique ways that may deepen our community’s experience of Seed.

What you’ll do:

  • Act as the first (and main) point of contact for the many scientific and health related inquiries that our external ecosystem sends our way, crafting detailed scientific responses while maintaining an approachable and empathetic tone.
  • Proactively communicate with members of our ecosystem—initiating new scientific touchpoints and conversations throughout the customer journey, igniting curiosity along the way.
  • Spend time scouring pubmed for the latest in microbiome + probiotic research—mindfully translating the literature while upholding the highest degree of scientific integrity with an emphasis on new macro creation + audits for enhanced customer experience.
  • Become a product knowledge expert for our current and future product + category pipeline—acting as a hub of the science behind Seed.
  • Work closely with SeedCare and larger CX team, iterating on best practices for meaningful customer engagement.
  • Develop and expand SciCare based projects and initiatives for additional educational touch points along the customer journey.
  • Help further develop the educational and scientific voice of Seed.
  • Support the SciCare + Communication team with wider projects and initiatives, spanning from Marketing to R+D.

Who you are:

  • You have a fundamental drive to deliver best in class service, with a true passion for making science accessible to all humans.
  • You have a degree in biology, or a relevant science field. Higher educational or professional degree is preferred.
  • Prior experience translating and communicating science, working in a healthcare setting, and ability to communicate sensitive information mindfully.
  • A ruthless prioritizer with high emotional intelligence. You are deeply thorough and thoughtful.
  • Excellent written, communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized, proactive, patient, solutions-driven, quick on your feet, and not afraid to roll up your sleeves.
  • Ability to position the customer at the center of every discussion or decision.
  • A “cosmos is the limit”, “out of the shipping box” mentality.
  • Committed to education and deepening self-learning and understanding of Seed, our products, and the science and knowledge that empowers our health.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and nimble with direction as the company grows to operate at scale; ability to react quickly to new business decisions.
Operations

Administrative + Office Assistant/Lead

This is the “you were there at the precipice of explosive growth, and quietly + steadfastly supported the completion of the company’s KPIs and milestones because of your incredible efficiency, organizational unicorn superpowers, and innate ability to stay on top of it, get ahead of it, and act quickly” type of opportunity.

You are buoyed by mountains of emails, Slacks, texts, Asana tasks, Google doc tags, and efficiently mine each thread you’re cc’d on for details that will help you do your job without having to ask; you see the matrix in backlogs of scheduling requests, digital paperwork, tracking of responses, and understand the growth opportunity to be had in being immersed in the minutiae. Without you, critical meetings wouldn’t get on the calendar, projects wouldn’t move forward, KPIs would get off track, and our Co-CEOs are mired in a backlog of tasks that prevent them from steering our ship.

You are beyond resourceful, keep up with the latest news in the world and in our space, care about health (including yours), and are so proficient in problem-solving and all things interweb and techy that friends and family feel guilty about taking advantage of your ability to help them with anything from iPhone synching failures to planning their weddings, and wonder if they need to start paying you for your assistance.

While no one would ever call you a wallflower, you know how to be the silent partner and critical observer/listener in all interactions, and you understand that being cc’d or bcc’d on a thread is a welcome invitation to support the sender + responder in tracking, following up, and making sure that questions are answered, deliverables are sent, and projects reach their full potential and final endpoint. To you, listening and behavioral pattern recognition is the key to unlocking information that will allow you to do your job and support your team.

“Closing the loop” is an obsession of yours; incomplete tasks, projects gone by the wayside, and that “something that someone said 3 months ago that I think was important but now I’ve lost it” has never, and will never, be in your behavioral wheelhouse. You don’t just follow-up for the sake of checking the box to say that you did; you consider timing, audience, and a host of other variables and context before you reach out. While you always act quickly, you also don’t act in haste; double-checking and triple-checking, critical thinking, and contextual analysis are your prized skills.

You are an exceptional writer of the less-is-more bent; discretion is your baseline operational foundation, and you know that getting to the point in a kind, professional, and friendly manner is where you’re most effective. You re-read, grammar check, and “reply-all vs. reply vs. cc vs. bcc” check every email you send. Emails aren’t conversations to you; they are clear steps to action. Clean, succinct subject headers, to do’s + follow ups carefully tee’d up, attachments and naming conventions with dates inserted––these are all a part of your communication hygiene regimen and you’ve never written emails any other way. After all, you know that your words, and how you put them on digital paper are a representation of your process and work, and you would never want to come across as messy, disorganized, chaotic, or not fully in control.

You are a sponge of information tangible and intangible; you understand that how and why things are communicated are as important as the “what.” Diligent is your middle name; you wake up every morning with a clear action plan and list of priorities that you tackle head on, and you also know how to re-prioritize at the drop of a hat when urgent needs shift (and in a fast-moving startup that just closed its Series A, they will definitely shift). You loathe stagnancy and find efficiencies in everything. You anticipate ahead of time when projects are in jeopardy of falling off track, and you know when your time and tasks need to be prioritized amidst an onslaught of incoming needs. You know how to balance your bandwidth across multiple tasks and projects, but also how to ask for help; you find it difficult to say “no” but you know when you need to reach out and collaborate with your team in order to get projects to completion. You are comfortable with ambiguity as a jumping-off point; your skills are in creating order and process from the first creative spark and brainstorm meeting that your colleagues will initiate to create the magic that is Seed. You don’t stop at the first or second or even third roadblock, and find creative and kind ways to make sh*t happen, even when it seems impossible.

While you could spend all day in front of the computer and not skip a beat, you also are resourceful in the street-sense meaning of the word. You know there’s just as much efficiency to mine in knowing how to arrange a package pick-up and preparing for office incoming deliveries ahead of time; you think about how to make life easier for all parties involved logistically, but you’re also ready to handle it yourself by dropping off a sample or gift impromptu. After you’ve repeated a certain task or tested a routine a few times, you always wonder, “how could I optimize this and get the same thing done in less time?” You’ve shipped a million gifts, important documents, and random but nevertheless critical possessions people have forgotten on that trip they just took off for, and you know when to use FedEx vs. DHL vs. USPS (as well as all their cutoff times), best practices for international customs forms, and why accurate weight and dimensions are critical to ensuring sure your package a) gets there on time and b) you don’t get overcharged.

The way our office looks when someone walks in is marketing—it communicates that we care about our space, that we care about our team, that we understand the meaning of service. For the team and our office, there are gifts to send, printers to fix, company decisions to weigh in on, opinions to be given on the small stuff and the big stuff, culture to shape and contribute to, and a million things we’re not thinking of because you’re the one that thinks about everything, down to the last detail. No task is too small for you because you know that important details and needs come in all shapes, sizes, and forms; in fact, you pride yourself in being able to do virtually anything (or learn it quickly by googling it or mining your 100+ contacts for tips).

For our co-CEOs and for our largely remote team (think time zones 15+ hours apart), there’s the fine art of scheduling—in the post 2020 work culture that we now find ourselves in, every decision and discussion that needs to be had ultimately means a calendar invite needs to be sent, attendees need to be confirmed in the RSVP “yes” column, multiple zoom accounts need to be utilized to avoid that “no overlapping meetings problem,” share screen and record settings need to be double-checked, and the art of considering whether its wise to book back-to-back when certain important meetings will inevitably run over; well, it’s all a part of our new remote and fully globalized digital world that you already mastered long before the pandemic and if not, then you certainly made yourself an expert by end of March 2020.

When you are killing it, the Co-Founders / Co-CEOs have unlocked the bandwidth to create the most value in their respective areas externally, while the internal team feels prioritized, considered and inspired to do their best work.

You get joy and fulfillment from being of service to those around you, and you are also excited about the growth opportunity and where this could lead because you have a knack for picking anything up, even if you never took that 101 course in high school or university. You’re insatiably curious, kind and empathetic with an unrivaled work ethic. You love the sink or swim approach (and you’ve always stayed comfortably afloat), and want to work with and learn from an incredible group of equally curious and motivated humans. If you’re reading this and jumping up and down saying, “it’s like they were inside my brain writing this,” please reach out.

Director, Finance

You have a fascination with the trillions of resident microorganisms in and on the human body, and seek mastery in finance. When you see a perfectly constructed financial model, you see a work of art. Your friends would describe you as a mathematical genius whose ‘back of the envelope’ mental calculations are rarely off.

Curiosity drives you with a strong work ethic to match. You’re already wondering about the percent of revenue reinvested in growth, working capital days, debt vs. equity, and top market comps for valuation (hint: BioGaia has a $1B valuation and we will hit their topline revenue in the next 18 months).

You’re always gathering information, flagging mistakes, advocating for capital efficiency, and eager to build a network of financial experts ready for specific problems as they arise. Vagueness bothers you, and you understand that complexity is not confusing. You define problems before you react to them. Turning chaos into order excites you, like early homo sapiens discovering agriculture for the first time. You scope projects with a clearly defined sequence of events, then go heads down and execute. Life is full of distractions, but you have both the self-awareness and discipline to consistently recalibrate your effort towards the most important task at hand.

Overall, you have a calm confidence in your skills yet understand that improvement requires active focus and effort. Uncertainty does not make you uncomfortable, knowing you put your best effort forward. You are not an anxious person, but are generally never entirely satisfied with something unless you do it yourself. You learn from the past and have future goals, but are still very much living in the present. Teachers and mentors would describe you as a driven, focused, and inquisitive mind who grasped concepts quickly, engaged with the subject, and above all else consistently delivered a great work product. You do the type of work that elicits genuine pleasure in the person reviewing it, like an architect reviewing specs for a world class structure. You’d rather change your name and start a simple new life in a foreign country than half-ass a project just to get it done.

You hold your colleagues accountable to deliverables, and offer constructive feedback immediately and frequently. In general you think fast, type fast, talk fast, work fast, and loathe both stagnancy and procrastination. You prepare for meetings, take potent notes, distill them into clear action items, and follow up. You set ambitious targets and regularly complete everything slated to get done that day. There are only 200 working hours each month but who’s counting. Your memory is oddly specific and detailed, and you easily recall things most people have forgotten. If we asked you what your favorite case study in business school was, you’d ask us how much time we have. Finally, you have genuinely interesting perspectives on a wide range of subjects, and we are genuinely interested to hear them.

What you’ll do:

  • Close Monthly Books and Financial Model with External Accountant
  • Investor Diligence and Reporting
  • Implement Systems for Prioritization, Project Management, and Reporting
  • Identify Resource Requirements for DTC business including Headcount and Operating Expenses to Scale Global Business
  • Audit and Own Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
  • Payment Processing Optimization
  • Manage External Team for Sales Tax
  • Financial Model Reconciliation
  • Track and Maintain a detailed COGS and Chart of Accounts
  • Work with Supply Chain to Set and Implement Unit Economic Targets
  • Financial Analysis for International Expansion Initiatives
  • Audit and Approve Monthly Invoices (Bill.com)
  • Track Inventory, Working Capital, and Payment Terms Optimization
  • Manage Payroll, Insurance, and Business Tax compliance
  • Improve Credit, Banking, and Cash Flow analysis and reporting
  • Federal Payroll and Business Tax Management and Compliance (Rippling)

Who you are:

  • You have a degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Mathematics, or Engineering and 5+ years of experience in the finance function with responsibilities in forecasting, analysis, and reporting, ideally in a technology, SaaS, or DTC Ecommerce subscription company, and ideally an MBA from a top tier business school.

Director, People and Culture

(Contract to Full-Time)

As the Director of People and Culture, recruiting and cultivating a diverse and extraordinary team is just table stakes—you will also steward cultural growth, osmosis, and adaptation within our ecosystem, inspiring conversation, question-asking, experimentation, and action so we may nudge the world forward bit by bit, each day. Your work feels both human and individual, while considering and evolving our collective. You will steward the implementation of frameworks, ideas, and communication across the team without introducing the tenor of bureaucracy and performative box-checking, nor diluting (but preserving and amplifying) our startup magic. You have a long-term view and evocative definition of what sustainability means within an organization.

You are a true thought partner to our Co-Founders and will determine how our Why + Values are transmitted and integrated. For internal communications, you understand the medium is the message—that what and when information is communicated and how it catalyzes dialogue in a fast-growing company is often as important as the content. In your essence, you are a community builder—of both thriving individuals and how those dots connect to form a resilient company. One doesn’t happen without the other.

You know that building an inclusive ecosystem means cultivating a relative abundance of perspectives, backgrounds, geographies, and experiences. To do this, you don’t simply recruit—you seek those that add complexity, richness, and diversity to our team. You are well-versed in the science of implicit and unconscious bias, as well as the thought leadership in these disciplines. To you, recruitment isn’t about box-checking or the right search terms on LinkedIn. You will help us seek out remarkable talent, and you will reimagine the candidate experience so each person leaves thinking “Wow, I’ve never experienced such a memorable interview process.”

You’ll incorporate a 360 view of each recruit’s journey both culturally and corporately, and you will define each step humanistically—from onboarding to offboarding, from the 30 minute introduction to the offer letter, and from a team member’s first day to their last. Importantly, and perhaps too often overlooked: you are the master of creating a meaningful rejection experience, because the human you don’t hire today is someone who has touched our company—an experience that ripples outwards.

We aspire to invoke humanism and clarity of action in each touch point of our culture. The Scientific Method guides our mindset of experimentation, observation, and iteration. It is persistent, curious, and open-minded, but deeply meticulous and exact. Just like there are no shortcuts to health, there are no shortcuts to learning. Education empowers better choices for the health of ourselves, our community, and our company. You will remind us to inquire before we choose, and learn before we judge. You will lead by example and inspire each of us to operate with empathy and accountability. You will promote company culture in a way that goes deeper than performative taglines, posters on the wall, and policies communicated at all company meetings. To do this, you’ll set up processes that actively denounce racism, injustice, hate, and inequality (both visible and invisible), and proactively evoke inspiration and agency. This is vital to our fight for an equitable and just society.

Using ‘first principles,’ you will build a robust employee experience that uniquely supports our nimble group of Superorganisms1. You will help us create infrastructure for growth and meaning behind titles, as well as merit behind compensation. You will develop new processes and tools that do not feel like company work, but human work. You will support the behavioral wellness of the team, offering resources to take care of their physical, mental, and emotional health. You will implement a structure from which employee feedback is circulated to management in a constructive, thoughtful way. You will structure and program how we show up in nature, how we meet as a company in small groups, and how our All Microbes meetings and ‘offsites’ can be most impactful. Think of yourself as the guardian of the internal member experience, the champion of the collective, and the UX designer for the osmosis, acclimation, and adaptation into and of our ecosystem.

Your network also includes a wide range and diverse group of individuals that you can call on to amplify our values and goals, as well as expand perspectives for our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Board, which you will oversee. As the leader of the DEI activities, you will implement thoughtful, empowering, and unprecedented programming for our team. You will organize informal and formal group discussions, backed by well-studied methods proven to foster a safe space for employees to be honest, non-judgemental, and kind to each other. You will gently nudge us towards confronting the uncomfortable aspects of our own biases and unintentional microaggressions, in order to maintain and deepen the culture of inclusivity within our ecosystem. Without honest conversations, there can be no forward progress, but we need your leadership to provide a framework and to hold us accountable to facing hard truths and our own shortcomings. Actively recruiting a diverse group of humans means nothing, after all, if those individuals don’t feel accepted and included within the collective.

Nurturing a thriving internal ecosystem also means guiding us in how we show up in our communities to engage, give back, empower, and learn. You will organize ongoing partnerships of giving to important nonprofits and community organizations, and define avenues for us to support locally owned businesses that align with the DEI Board’s mission and scope of work. Internally, you will work with our Marketing + Social departments in the ongoing process of auditing our social media channels, affiliates, campaigns and partnerships—and you will contribute to deepening those efforts. You will also engage with our R+D team in the active recruitment of a diverse scientific forum, and you will dive into our operational structures and partners to ensure that our values and action plans are aligned.

Then there’s data. You’ll generate comprehensive analyses of our internal company metrics, you’ll distribute internal listening tools, and you’ll gather feedback with a precise yet thoughtful approach. Most importantly, you will be forthright in assessing the status of our inclusion efforts and regularly provide status updates to management. You will perform analysis in performance review, promotion, and compensation equity within our company so that our mission to fight for an equitable and just society is actioned across all pathways internally and externally.

Who you are:

  • You are an exceptional listener and communicator across all mediums, who understands that it is as much about what you don’t say as it is about what you do say
  • You possess extraordinary interpersonal and written communication skills, as well as a collaborative engagement style; you are inherently patient, calm, non-judgemental, and can empathize with a variety of viewpoints
  • You have gold-standard experience in recruitment, talent development, and retention, as well as organizational development, employment law, and compensation
  • 5+ years of experience in leading People + Culture for organizations that are known for their positive company culture, employee retention, and satisfaction
  • You have expert and quantified experience in implementing diversity, inclusion, and equity strategies for high-growth startups
  • Bonus points if you have a social science background and an understanding of the intersection between science and health
  • You are trained in data collection, analysis, and development of internal company metrics, with the ability to translate into strategy
  • You are actively engaged with a thoughtfully cultivated, diverse network of individuals and organizations who can support our company culture with informative, growth-inducing workshops and team programming and resources
  • You embody ownership and execution at all levels
  • You build foundational systems and processes quickly and thoughtfully
  • You are educated in and understand the cultural nuances of a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, experiences, and identities—and you define diversity beyond race, including but not limited to sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, sex/gender identity, religion, education level, and household status (i.e. working parent or caretaker)
  • You love to learn—the more you learn about our science and our work, the more integrated your work will be
  • Lastly, and most importantly, you are insatiably curious, kind, and empathic with an unrivaled work ethic. Your worldview is not insular, but expansive—you are ready to do something meaningful and impactful

Scientific Definition: A complex system consisting of a large number of individual organisms that function together to behave as if it were an ecosystem and to gain a biological advantage.

Seed Translation: A curious and inquisitive, perspective-shifting organism, who questions relentlessly, thinks differently, takes the time to understand holistically, and believes everything is connected. An activist for the bettering of humanity and our planet. Sometimes referred to as: ‘a person who lives scientifically’.

In other words, you.

Head of Talent Acquisition

You will design and own our recruitment and talent strategy, project manage its execution across all touch points, and identify and deliver quarterly KPIs focused on attracting and hiring extraordinary, curious talent with passion for excellence and existential persistence for impact.

You know that building an inclusive ecosystem means cultivating a relative abundance of perspectives, backgrounds, geographies, and experiences. At Seed, our team members aren’t just employees and open positions aren’t just seats to fill––we are a collective of Superorganisms1; we encourage thoughtful question-asking, first principles thinking and a commitment to excellence and our shared mission of improving planetary and human health through the applications of microbes. The superpowers you will apply to help us grow reflect a long-term view and an evocative definition of what sustainability means within an organization. You inherently understand both the fragility and resiliency of a thriving ecosystem, and you will build our team with a holistic vision––understanding that talent and culture are inextricably intertwined, and that it IS possible to grow in size without diluting our magic.

To do this, you don’t simply recruit—you seek those that add inspiring expertise, excellence, the spirit of deep ownership, extraordinary communication skills and leadership qualities at every level. You are well-versed in the science of implicit and unconscious bias, as well as the thought leadership in these disciplines. To you, recruitment isn’t about box-checking or the right search terms on LinkedIn. You will help us seek out remarkable talent, and you will reimagine the candidate experience so each person leaves thinking “Wow, I’ve never experienced such a memorable process.”

You’ll incorporate a 360 view of each recruit’s journey both culturally and corporately, and you will define each step humanistically using a first principles approach. Every touchpoint from A to Z will be thoughtfully considered, carefully crafted, and elegantly executed. Most importantly, and perhaps too often overlooked: you are the master of creating a meaningful rejection experience, because the human you don’t hire today is someone who has touched our company—an experience that ripples outwards.

You will partner with the People + Culture Lead to help us create infrastructure for growth and meaning behind titles, as well as merit behind compensation, particularly as it relates to bringing new team members on board. Think of yourself as the explorer—seeking out, often in the most unlikely places, unicorns who exemplify our values while diversifying our perspective. You leave no stone unturned across a pipeline of roles and external recruiting partners.

With a data-driven, scientific approach, you will enable meaningful compensation equity within our company so that our contribution towards a more equitable and just society is actioned across all pathways internally and externally. You will define and execute KPIs and report weekly hiring data analytics/metrics to maintain a tight, efficient window for our hiring pipeline; concurrently, you will work with our senior leadership and hiring managers to calibrate candidates weekly (or in some cases, daily and hourly).

You stay on top of the latest market news and competitive trends in recruitment, and you will coach our hiring managers in best practices, assign accountability (including your own), set priorities for organizational growth, and design and implement processes to attract and retain galaxy-class talent. You are well-versed in communicating and functionalizing recruiting resources, building industry partnerships and trade association affiliations to widen the talent network, and amplifying our recruiting efforts using social media at scale and across a number of roles.

You easily establish rapport with just about anyone, and you’ve built relationships and partnerships with talent and organizations across a wide range of disciplines–-from business development to branding, from product development to the most technical and scientific research. You are a consummate dot-connector of the highest caliber; you have a knack for spotting talent, seeking talent, attracting talent, and keeping years worth of relationships just a couple of pings away. Your mind is an encyclopedia of Superorganisms filed like stacks of baseball cards––all you need to know is if the person should play at first/second/third base (or pitch, or coach, or sell the food at concessions), and you know who to call.

You will work with our Co-Founders and senior leadership to plan and execute sustainable organizational growth in our fast-moving startup, implementing out-of-the-box processes and search/market strategies to creatively source, attract and develop passive candidates at the top of their game, while also deploying a masterful internal process of reviewing active candidate submissions and referrals as they are received to mine the treasure trove of humans who can’t wait to immerse themselves in our scientific, data-driven, and question-asking culture.

Seed Health was named one of the Los Angeles Business Journal’s 2021 Best Places to Work in LA––and even before your first day on the job, you’ll know exactly how to embody our startup magic to every single recruit you meet on our behalf, whether it’s pixels-to-pixels or IRL.

You will strategically and with a “reading-between-the-lines,” balanced approach, be able to effectively navigate short closing timelines for sought-after candidates, negotiate equitable compensation packages in a high-stakes, high-growth market, and simultaneously place yourself in each person’s shoes––what’s best for the candidate, as well as what’s best for our company. You are a true match-maker that will make the process seem as though it happened organically; in reality, you were there every step of the way, knowing when to step in or give some space. You will nurture your relationships with candidates across weeks, months, and years––roles shift and positions open and close, but talent never wanes.

Shipping Operations Coordinator

A touchpoint is a touchpoint is a touchpoint. Everything from the label on a sweatshirt, to a well-orchestrated Zoom meeting, to an email to our scientists is an opportunity to weave storytelling + data points into a personalized and tangible journey of Seed. Despite shifting to a largely remote team in the wake of a global pandemic, there are certain touch points that can’t be executed via Zoom, and in many cases, they are among the most important endpoints of all: a kit shipped to our first clinical trial participant, a gift package to a VIP influencer, a custom-run piece of Magic1 for a loyal follower of @Seed, or extra DS-01™ refills from our Care team to a valued community member.

You are a meticulous do-er, but most of all, you seek a higher purpose in what you do; no task is too small for you because you know that important details and priorities come in all shapes, sizes, and forms (and in this case, all types of packages 📦 🙂 ). This is not shipping + packing for the sake of getting it “out of sight, out of mind.” You always anticipate and seek to optimize processes, and you think about the human at the receiving end, and the experience they will have. For our marketing team, packages are a trojan horse for curiosity and biology and knowledge through memes, gifs, poems, rap, art, and fanny packs. For our SeedU influencers and our global PR team, testing our DS-01™ welcome kits is an imperative launch point from which they can share our mission + values at scale to their communities. For our world-class R+D department and Scientific Advisory Board, there is the precision and attention to detail that is required in packaging our clinical trial test kits that uphold scientific standards.

You want to contribute first-hand to the magic, and you want to wake up every day to make science and health accessible, cool, and empowering. You have the grit, hands-on know-how, and superhuman follow-through skills of the “wrap it, pack it, ship it + repeat” variety to support our company in delivering our critical, real-world touch points to their recipients in a precise, timely, and efficient manner. As a quickly-growing Series A startup with a million touch points to consider and execute on everyday, you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, own, and execute your piece of it––the critical, daily grind of packing + shipping in all of its permutations and logistical variations––as part of our larger, collective company mission.

1Seed's FREE "Drop" System which can encapsulate anything from internal team gifting that only the team at Seed gets to large brand collaborations. Note: All Magic drops feature a LTE (Learn to Earn) component, where the reward for curiosity and learning is a limited-edition piece from Seed.

Product Development Assistant

You think in innovation. You live and aspirate formulation, informed by science. And not the marketing definition of science—but science, science.

You are innately curious and interested in challenging the status quo, particularly when it comes to hacking categories that thrive on misinformation and confusion.

You have meticulous—borderline obsessive—attention to detail and understand how hundreds of small moving parts contribute to the overall success of a project. You loathe inertia and you are particularly skilled at taking a high-level milestone/KPI and working with key team members to chart a granular, multiple-tab google-sheet path forward, with each small and large step firmly entrenched in its own cell with “Status” column next to it that you then track incessantly to keep the project on track.

You are particularly adept at identifying relevant literature and resources, immersing yourself in the material, and coming out the other side as a newly minted expert. When you’ve been assigned to lead a project, you make it your mission to ensure every task and every follow up (compiled from all forms of communication—email, slack, Asana, Google sheet comments, or pixel-to-pixel meetings) is seen through to completion. Closing the loop is your motto; you apply gusto and unwavering dedication to every task––big and small, micro to macro, mundane to complex.

Ideally, you have experience working in the life science industry in the commercialization of consumer products, and excel within a small core team, sprinting through to meet aggressive timelines. More importantly, you are well-versed and capable of facilitating interactions and coordinating research, development, production, and scale up across internal and external teams (R+D partners, contract laboratories, and manufacturers). You have the ability to identify technology and its potential application with Seed’s product pipelines and can craft a roadmap to identify KPIs and the relevant stakeholders to accomplish those milestones.

You can work autonomously with little oversight to execute diligently and expertly, but you also thrive in a collaborative work environment and consider being collegially challenged, thoughtfully questioned, and tactfully held accountable to be a growth opportunity with enormous potential for you to impact the world. You execute seamlessly across varying work/product execution styles, workflows, and communication styles, supporting your team members across multiple channels and departments. You crave immersion in a thought-provoking, game-changing work environment and consider stagnancy and predictability to be the antithesis of creating impactful and innovative processes, especially in the path to formulating new products that have the potential to shape and change the existing marketplace for the better.

You are a resourceful problem solver who anticipates multiple scenarios before they arise, and you know how to plan for every potential problem along the way. You are comfortable with ambiguity and uncharted territory, and push projects forward with a clear understanding of certainties and uncertainties, balancing it all concurrently and forging multiple paths so the tasks get done, whichever way possible. Ultimately, you’re able to carve out efficient processes that quickly integrate key data points that emerged along the way. You know when persistence is key but you also can identify when it's time to pivot. “Tact” is your middle name, and you use it with aplomb to reach out to key stakeholders at consistent points throughout the project and hold them accountable to deliverables and timelines, maintaining the momentum, and completing the shared milestones.

What you’ll do

  • Report to and work directly with the Director of Product Development to define the scope of work and plan for each project
  • Assist in the management and execution of projects from ideation to commercialization, including identification and execution of key development milestones
  • Support product scale-up and transfer to supply chain
  • Assist in the identification, oversight, and management of CROs, CMOs and consultants
  • Work collaboratively with R+D to conduct ingredient and assay diligence
  • Support product finalization (formulation and testing)
  • Coordinate development timelines with R+D to support clinical trials
  • Identify partners and aid in the development of methodology or revisions to existing protocols to meet target experimental endpoints
  • Track projects through the workflow process and update across the team in relation to meeting deadlines and next steps
  • Track and maintain each project from ideation to execution including scoping out deliverables, requirements gathering, development, execution and quality assurance
  • Facilitate and manage all communication between internal team members and methodically organize weekly progress across all R+D into action items and priorities for integration into Asana
  • Own scheduling for project kick off meetings and facilitate regular internal review meetings to correspond to timelines
  • Document change orders, meeting notes, weekly status updates and project timelines
  • Follow/create new project flow procedures to ensure maximum efficiency
  • Identify opportunities to improve process

Who you are:

  • BA/BS/MS in Chemistry, Material Science, or similar, with additional experience in microbiology
  • Life Science industry experience a plus

Project Manager, R+D

You have meticulous, borderline obsessive, attention to detail and understand how hundreds of small moving parts contribute to the overall success of a project. You loathe inertia and are particularly skilled at taking a high level milestone and working with the key team members to chart out a path forward, step by step, to keep momentum moving. You treat the coordination of research, development, production, scale-up, and testing like an art form with the perfect balance of wisdom, experience, strategic vision, urgency, and judgement. Nothing ever falls between the cracks and even if a project is temporarily deprioritized, it’s never lost. The world doesn’t always value project management enough. Fortunately, we do.

You also understand the medium is the message; communication (stand-ups, emails, Asana tasks, how meetings are structured, etc.) and the tools we use to communicate—are the difference between OK coordination and the ability to achieve more than we can dream up with a lean, productive team.

Ideally, you have direct experience overseeing projects as part of a small core team with aggressive timelines within the life sciences industry (but we are not myopic and believe if the first two paragraphs sing to you, you wouldn’t hesitate to apply). You have managed and streamlined processes with research, operations teams, and leadership teams, and have had to think about every aspect of a project, most importantly the prioritization of time, and how the needs of one project impact another. While proficiency is important, you’re comfortable pushing things along with known uncertainties and have a process to quickly and reproducibly integrate key data points as they emerge.

You are resourceful, solve problems, and anticipate them before they even arise. You pride yourself on translating abstraction into order. You can run sprints across teams and infuse a sense of urgency into each minute of the work day. Every single meeting has an agenda circulated and a follow-up email ready to go within minutes of wrapping up—and most importantly these touch points do not feel administrative but an opportunity to surprise and delight each step of the way. At times, your email may be the best crafted and most memorable in an external partner or scientist’s inbox that day.

At all times you have your finger on the pulse of what’s happening across research and development. At a high level, you can look at where we’re headed and what will scale and right up close, can see what needs to be done to deliver on even the smallest deliverable. No detail too small and no part of the dream too big.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage each project from ideation to execution including scoping out deliverables, requirements gathering, development, execution and quality assurance
  • Project manage scientific milestones including but not limited to paper publications, technical decks, clinical trials, regulatory filings, and scale-up
  • Ensure R+D documents are tracked, integrated, updated, and intuitively organized in Google Drive. Capture weekly progress to ensure Drive is up-to-date and always ready for diligence
  • Work directly with the leadership team to define the scope of work and plan for each project
  • Coordinate external team and track progress between weekly meetings with scientists. Facilitate and manage all communication between internal team members and methodically organize weekly progress across all R+D into action items and priorities for integration into Asana
  • Proactively tackle potential questions, delays or conflicts and communicate status updates to the Director of R+D and CEOs
  • Track projects through the workflow process and update across the team in relation to meeting deadlines and next step
